Children are longer a child.
The education in France is much more controlled, children are brought to school and do not hang around on the streets. And if they are 16-17 years and go out for the first time, you always know exactly where they hang out and with whom. Parents call each other to ensure that children do not hang out in the streets aimlessly with an illegally purchased bottle of rum to discover what coma drinking, but are under constant supervision of the parent or guardian. For those teenagers it is not always fun, but because everyone is treated in the same way, life is the way it is.

High quality food at school.
On all public primary schools there is a good canteen where a 3 course lunch is offered. The costs are on average three euro’s per day. On the basis schools in a little town like Cagnes sur Mer children eat only bio-organic food from the local farmers. In a playful manner and under the watchful eye of the teachers, children learn at a young age to eat all their vegetables and that blue cheese indeed is a dessert.

Exercise is important.
In many schools children are getting fatter by the own packed sandwiches with Nutella, filled cakes and sweet sugar flavoured drinks. There is too little exercise because sports lessons during school are not in the budget anymore or have a minimal presence. In France, children get an average of 4 hours sports per week and they can join for little money after school a sports club. For less than a hundred euros, they are a full year member of the football club, the hockey club, synchronized swimming, athletics and so on. Many schools send children every year also a week sailing camp or skiing camp. These costs are fully paid by the municipality.

Normal school hours and homework help.
The school starts at 08.30 and goes out at 16.30. This gives parents the opportunity to work in normal times and take the children home at the end of the day. Children never hang aimlessly in the streets or are sitting lonely at home on the television. You can also choose for the ‘garderie’; that is max. two hours longer at school to make their homework. Children in the south of France get to play more outside. Of course the fine weather helps contribute to the health of the children.

International education.
Children in the South of France are internationally educated, that is certainly a big change with the past. Where children in big cities leran English with a Pakistani accent, the children in South of France get standard French and English, and they can choose additional Italian or Spanish lessons. This applys to all ll the children from six years.

Child benefit is higher.
In France, the more children in your family are present (both own and stepchildren) the less tax you pay. Foreigners who permanently live in France, can claim child benefit: the 'allocations familiales'. The scheme applies to anyone with a family, in principle at least two children under 11 years or if they are studying, till 21 years. The payments shall be made monthly. The 'normal' child benefit is € 127.68 net per month for two children, € 291.27 for three children. A resident of 20 years is entitled to a fee of € 80.73 and there is a charge for children aged 11 to 16 years € 63.84.
