Hollande searches in Google for money

François Hollande has told Google chair Eric Schmidt that France intends to proceed with plans to force the search giant to pay when it links to news content. Hollande, culture minister Aurélie Filippetti and small business minister Fleur Pellerin, met Schmidt yesterday and one of the items on the agenda was France's desire to make Google pay for content. Hollande said in a statement that he hopes negotiations between Google and news organisations can begin quickly and be concluded by the end of the year. He said he was prepared to legislate. Google has threatened to remove all links to French newspapers from its search results, depriving them of what it says is four billion clicks a month.

After a stormy weekend.

The French Riviera is recovering from a stormy, with heavy rain and fierce winds in the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes on Friday. Météo France recorded 13 centimetres of rain at Mandelieu-la-Napoule on Friday night and winds of up to 135 kilometres per hour in Le Dramont, near Saint Raphael, caused various trees to come down. Firefighters were called out 300 times to evacuate people from their flooded homes. Roads were closed around Antibes, Nice, Grasse and Cannes – cellars were flooded and two campsites had to be evacuated. Six flights due to land at Nice airport were diverted to Marseille or Lyon.

Passengers on an Easyjet flight from Paris to Nice were delayed by five and a half hours on Friday night because of the bad weather on the Riviera. They were due to take off from Orly but were instead shuttled to Charles de Gaulle by bus and didn’t take off until 2.30 in the morning. They reached nice at 4am.

Several passengers on the Corsica ferry from Nice to Ajaccio were abandoned at the port in Calvi in the middle of the storm. The ferry company reportedly decided to turn the boat back for Toulon and the passengers were due to be picked up by another boat but it did not arrive for an hour and a half and spent the whole night at the quayside.

If you live in the Uk or US and you are afraid that your pool has drowned due to the heavy rainfall, call us for a free inspection Marinus Concierge 06 5991 0425.

Southern French boars.

It is almost November and in the garden are the remains of a fruit full summer on the French Riviera; slack apples, dried figs and a stray pear. Delicious food for the wild boar that we, as if it were zombies, crawls every night higher up the mountain looking for food. The screams of the baby boars sounds like high squeaks. Not that we're afraid of those cute little pigs, it is the father who is the greatest danger. Encouraged by 200 pounds and a two large fangs he goes nothing and no one out of the way, walks boldly on our yard back and sniffs under the trampoline for food for his offspring. You can not blame a father, though this his father want to protect his offspring against a wild boar. Hence, this summer the project 'Ab the Fence "has begun. Every month I buy 20 meters mesh, 10 poles and a roll of wire to delineate another part of our site. Now, just for winter, the house is surrounded with a 1 meter 50 tall fence and even the dog can no longer run away. Let the boar come, we're safe. Hihaaa.

Living in the South of France

The southern French Riviera is home for many people who have not been born there: in particular, the Russians and the English have quite developed the region at the beginning of the 19th century. The Russians mainly built large buildings such as churches and extremely luxurious villas and the British threw themselves into special projects to make life pleasant such as the Boulevard des Anglais (1840) and the ski resort Isola 2000 (1970). Today, the population is an mix of almost every nationality with a shared agreement: we all love France, good food and the sun.

Anyone interested in Living on the Riviera will think twice before you go. Because to say it is easy enough, but really do it? It took me over 20 years before I took the big step; 2 months after my emigration I knew that I would never take go back. There are more people that choose for the quality of life and are looking for a sunny outdoor area for the children and where the schools are strict and sound.

In the South of France the economy is less bad than in the rest of the country and companies in numerous industries still search people who speak multiple languages. Tourism, yachtinng and the brokerage industry are the largest branches and further anything where service and care is key. Your own place on the French Riviera should not be expensive, shopping at the local Lidl or Dia are similar in price as in the UK. You can hire a flat or studio in the center of Antibes or Nice from 500 Euros per month and a bit detached house with garden and two bedrooms is yours for less than 300.000 euro. Want more garden, sea and space? Then prices run up quickly. Mougins is the most expensive city to live, followed by Cannes. A general rule, one hour from the coast saves about 150,000 euros on prices.

If you know that you want to rent a house, remember that real-estate brokers often ask an annual rent (12 months yes) as deposit. You are a foreigner and they have bad experiences with non-paying tennants. You can also talk to a local company like the Dutch managed MarinusConcierge Services. They know many local landlords and you can make a direct deal with only 3 months deposit.

Do you want to buy a house on the Riviera, do not get lost in the overhwelming numbers of real-estate agents, but hire the search service from Living @ the Côte d'Azur. They have a public and a closed range of villas and apartments at special locations and mostly owned by Dutch people who prefer their villa without a French agency. Learn more about work, school and housing? Call the Dutch couple Jolanda Marinus 33 659 910 425 or Ab Kuijer 33 770 186 203. Or email jo@ cq ab@marinus-concierge.com. They offer their experience, Dutch reliability and a large network of local properties.

In bed with 4 blondes and a trumpet.

I am asleep. I do this every night, but this time it's a special sleep because I play trumpet in my dream. This is of course because I saw at the home of my parents in law a cabinet filled with trumpets; beautiful instruments from the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Playing a trumpet seemed like a cool thing and completely under the spell of that idea I am practicing this night in my dream. It is going really well, my love even hears me softly playing. I blow a little melody, like 'twuuht, twuht, twuuuht'. Jo is awake now and rattles me a bit. But in my dream I stand on the Concertgebouw stage and the audience gives me applause. The enthusiastic spectators are clapping so hard that suddenly a loud bang is heard. Bang! I open my eyes and I'm equally confused. Then there is another big bang. It is the thunder right above us. If a storm get started at the Côte d'Azur, then it really serious: less than a second after a bright white flash pops up, another thunder strikes again and rattles the windows. Three seconds later, we see two frightened girls in pyjamas at our bed. "We are scaahaared and it is veeery noisy upstairs, soon the roof will fall off...". Fe and Sophie are allowed as an emergency regulation to lie between us, I put a night light on and notice that it is only half past three in the morning. Well, it is kinda cosy. We listen attentively to the defeatening thunder that seems to be becoming more louder. The rain clatters down and caused a huge roar. Suddenly I think about Floortje outside the guard. I get out of bed and stand face to face with a dog that looks at me with a look of "you can not do this boss'. I let our trembling Golden Retriever  inside and Madam walks straight to our bed and drops herself down at the foot of it. Now I'm awake I think I'll go to the bathroom. While I'm sleepy and concentrated emptying my bladder the power falls out and believe me, when that happens, it becomes very dark in the house. I hear screams in the bedroom while the thunder and the flashes follow closer to one another. I stumbled blind into the bedroom. 'Oh, I was just about to pee when the lights fell out! "I say embarrassed when everyone laughs. Being still the man in the house, I light a candle to find the fuse box to get some light into the darkness. Within 3 minutes the fuses stop again. "Oh, it's fine like this, we all try to sleep now, ok? says Mama Jo and we do our best. I fall fast asleep after five minutes and start to play trumpet again. "Twuuht, twuhuuut" I softly blow and then the curtain opens again, the audience claps enthusiastically and caused another deafening roar that I hear out of my sleep. Delicious are these dreams with real surround sound.
